Mainz, Germany, March 4th, 2024 – The HomeGrid Forum are delighted to announce Paul Arola’s appointment to the organization’s Board of Directors, recognizing his instrumental role in ensuring the evolution and market adoption of G.hn Access technology.
Service operators were previously unable to deliver best-in-class broadband access services to areas where optical fiber cannot be deployed all the way to the customer premises. Serving as the Chair of the GiGAWire™ Task Force since December 2021, Arola – a Senior Design Specialist at TELUS – has been pivotal in the acceleration of G.hn Access scenario deployments. As a result, the same G.hn technology which ensures reliable broadband connectivity within the home has been extended to Multi Dwelling Units (MDUs), such as large apartments and office complexes, alongside Single Family Units (SFUs).
“Paul Arola’s appointment to the Board of Directors comes at a pivotal time for the broadband industry,” said HomeGrid Forum President Livia Rosu, also leading the strategy alliances landscape at MaxLinear. “As the demand from end users for multi-Gigabit home networking services continues to rise, the HomeGrid Forum is poised to accelerate broadband access deployments for service providers. TELUS and Paul have greatly contributed to the launch of the G.hn Access Certification Program and continue to drive interoperability efforts with the GiGAWire™ Task Force.”
GiGAWire™ is the broadband access network solution based on the ITU-T G.hn standard. Through the work of the GiGAWire™ Task Force, service providers are now utilizing G.hn technology through existing wires to cost-effectively provide last mile infrastructure in areas like SFUs and MDUs where optical fiber cannot be deployed all the way to the customer premises. This enables consumers to enjoy an excellent Quality of Experience, enhanced reliability and a greater choice of content offered by service providers, increasing overall customer satisfaction.
“Both Paul and TELUS have been instrumental in making G.hn access deployments faster and more cost-effective,” said Senior Engineering Manager – Broadband Services, DISH Network, and Chair of the HomeGrid Forum Board of Directors, Paul Keator. “With Paul Arola joining the Board, we are certain he will continue to drive innovation in his new role; he is the perfect choice to represent the needs and requirements of our members.”
GiGAWire™ provides crosstalk mitigation and auto-pairing features to best support multiple users through bundled cables, with deployment options to capitalize on complementary architectures to extend fiber networks over phoneline and coax-based Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint infrastructure. By leveraging a common data model for coax and twisted pair deployments, GiGAWire™ allows telcos to streamline and significantly reduce system integration costs. Another important benefit is that using G.hn on coax and twisted pairs simplifies the operational complexity and reduces operational expenses.
A complete illustration of G.hn Access use cases will be given by Livia Rosu, the President of the HomeGrid Forum, and by Pierre Trudeau, President of Positron Access Solutions, a HomeGrid Forum Member, at the upcoming BBF BASe event in Mainz, Germany, where they will share lessons learned for the G.hn and XGS-PON seamless integration.
Details on current GiGAWire Task Force activities can be found on the HomeGrid Forum website.
