I’m delighted to announce that Marcos Martinez, the Contributions Workgroup Chair for HomeGrid Forum and Senior Systems Engineer at Marvell Semiconductors, has received the ‘Outstanding Contributor Award’ during the Broadband Forum 2017 First Quarter Annual Meeting (20-23 March 2017, Chicago, USA).
The award recognizes individuals who went above and beyond in their contributions to Broadband Forum Working Areas (WA) throughout the year. Marcos was acknowledged because of his contribution to the broadband industry, which has helped to deliver the Forum’s Broadband 20/20 vision.
The 20/20 vision was introduced to unlock the potential for leveraging innovative new technologies such as Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software Defined Access (SDA), the Internet of Things (IoT), and 5G technologies, with the aim of enabling the delivery of ultrafast broadband services.
Specifically, Marcos has been recognized because of his ongoing work on Physical Transmission 1905.1 within Broadband User Services. His work on the IEEE 1905 stack provides wired to wireless in-home networking advantages, including its use between Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Powerline, and MoCA, and can be used by any network processor to bridge the two worlds.
From a consumer perspective, this solution has enabled consumers to easily install advanced in-home networking equipment themselves, thus significantly increasing performance and extending wireless coverage.
In a career spanning 15+ years, Marcos has specialized in the design of advanced broadband systems, including GPON, EPON, xDSL, and home networking systems. In addition to his roles with HomeGrid Forum and the Broadband Forum, he is also vice rapporteur of ITU-T Q18/15 (WP1/15) and participates in different R&D projects in the field of broadband communications.
